The Blarney Stone is in the wall of Blarney Castle - in the Irish village of (yes) Blarney. The castle was built in 1446 and has walls 18 feet thick Legend says an old woman cast a spell on the stone to reward a king who saved her from drowning. Why Kiss a Dirty, Old Rock? Kissing the stone is supposed to give you the gift of persuasive, eloquent speech (this means blarney) You have to climb up to the tower, lay on your back, lean out over the parapet, bend backwards (and downwards), hang onto some iron bars so you don't fall, and then smooch the stone. Save yourself the plane fare to Ireland, the backache and the germs. Just lay down on your keyboard and kiss this rock!
