Nightgown Day |
In 16th century France, tight corsets, layered clothes and powered wigs were all the rage. No wonder everybody wanted to wear something comfortable at night. The word "nightgown" described a long, loose frock with long sleeves. Besides being comfortable, it also kept people warm. Men and women both wore this same basic garment to bed for the next 150 years. Eventually, the nightgown for men grew shorter and was called a "nightshirt". |
