Originally modeled after the British Girl Guides. The first group was started in Savannah, Georgia in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low - with 18 members. Her dream was to get girls out of the house to serve in the community and enjoy the open air. Girl Scouts became a national organization in 1915 and has been growing ever since.
