Motorcycle Day |
Gottlieb Daimler (who later formed the Daimler-Benz Corporation) built the first motorcycle in 1885. It had one wheel in the front, one in the back plus spring-loaded outrigger wheels on each side. It was made mostly of wood with iron-banded, wooden-spoked wheels. It was powered by a single-cylinder engine, and probably had a spray-type carburetor. Rumor has it that the bike provided a "bone crusher" ride. Motorcycle Museum Online |
