It's hard to guess who flew the first kites. But, we can date kites as far back as 3000 years ago in China - they were made from bamboo and silk and were first used by the military. Over the centuries, kites have been reproduced around the world for many different reason. They took on mystical and religious meaning in most of Asia and were used in scientific experiments in the US (remember Ben Franklin). Most of all, they have provided endless hours of outdoor fun.
