Shoo Fly Day |
Shoo fly pie comes to us from our German and Pennsylvania Dutch ancestors. It's a molasses pie that has a wet bottom, cake-like middle, and crumb topping. People used to place the pies in their kitchen windows to cool. The molasses attracted lots of flies, so they were always saying... "Shoo Fly!". They also used to eat this pie for breakfast.
