| In 1500, Portuguese Admiral Pedro Alvares Cabral, was the first European to reach Brazil and initiated Portuguese colonization. On this day in 1822, Pedro I, son of King Joao VI, declared Brazil an independent empire from Portugal and assumed throne as emperor. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY BRAZIL! |
