Howie Dorough is the youngest of five children and of Puerto Rican and Irish descent.
He knew that he wanted to perform after he played a munchkin in a production of "The Wizard of Oz" at the age of 7. His first love was always music and he was cast in many community theater productions as he was growing up. His acting led to a Disney World commercial and roles in "Welcome Freshmen", a pilot for a Nickelodeon series, and in the films "Parenthood" and "Cop and a Half". It was during one of these auditons that he met Nick and AJ and first considered forming the band that eventually became the Backstreet Boys. He is called "Mr. Neat" and is also known as "Mr. Mediator" for settling arguments within the group.
